Sam Lee
Freerider

Skiing is my passion and my life, and I am super grateful for having the opportunity to travel the world competing and meeting rad people along the way.

I've been competing internationally for 6 or 7 years and have just requalified for my third season skiing on the Freeride World Tour, after completing the 2018 season ranked 13th in the world.

Now my objective is to go hard in FWT 2019 and see if I can keep this thing rolling on for a while longer!

Background

I started skiing in my home country of New Zealand when I was 2 and a half years old and have skied every winter since, and then some.

I got into competing at the age of 8 when I took up ski racing on the weekends at Mt Ruapehu in the North Island.

By the time I was 16 I decided that Freeride was what I really wanted to pursue, and made the switch from racing - best decision so far!

Originally growing up in Auckland, my family relocated to the small ski town of Wanaka when I was 13.
A move which I attribute to my love of mountains and all things adventure and nature related.

What are Sam's Marmot Favourites?

The Freerider jacket and Mantra pants are my favourite combination for skiing and adventuring, they are super functional and I love the look!
Managing layers is important when ski touring and training freeride, as conditions or circumstances can change quickly in the mountains, a fact that is especially important to manage in the backcountry.

Marmot Freerider Jacket

Using a windproof and waterproof shell like the Freerider is perfect because it allows you to layer super light when going hard out on a pow day or when climbing back to the top, and the relaxed fit means you have enough space to load up on warmer underlayers when it gets cold.

Marmot Mantra Pant

The Mantra pants fit right in with well-placed zips for ventilation and a sturdy build that can stand up to scrambling through the alpine environment.
